This study addresses the neural implementation of action potential (AP) codes that encode a time-dependent external signal such as the visual image of a grating. As shown by our simulations, grating-specific spike-timing codes (StsC) can be generated by invariant action potential responses. The simulation results illustrate that the learning of the invariance property of APs leads to a loss of information, namely the feedforward temporal information of the signal, and the information about stimulus orientation. As a consequence, the operation of the network is different from its operation in the learning phase. In the learning phase, the network learns, to some extent, the feedforward information of the signal and also learns the time-dependent aspect of the signal, namely, the temporal code. However, this learning is impeded by the loss of the information about the stimulus orientation. The results of our simulation analysis suggest that this loss is due to the fact that the temporal code changes its operation as the stimulus is rotated. As a result, the active network in the learning phase shows a mode of operation that resembles the passive mode, in which the network represents the grating without any of the characteristics of the time-dependent signal. The simulation results also suggest that there are two different mechanisms underlying the learning process, namely, the invariance property of APs and the time-dependent property of the signal.Pommern (ship) Pommern, also known as Pommerin (or Pommerin) was an East Indiaman built in Glasgow in 1796. In April 1798 she was on a voyage from London to Madras and Bengal that ended in a wreck on her first voyage. Career Pommern was built in Glasgow in 1796. She initially sailed from London on 22 December 1796 under the command of Captain James Walker. She left under an Indiaman owner, but was later taken over by the East India Company. At some point, Pommern was lost in the Atlantic Ocean. Lloyd's List reported on 30 March 1798 that Pommern, Walker, master, had been missing since the previous day. Pommern had been sailing from be359ba680
